In 2011, I was selected for an internship at Pixar Animation Studios. I spent 10 weeks learning and applying skills in various areas of technical direction: modeling, shading, rigging, lighting, effects, layout, set dressing, and rendering. It was a whirlwind environment to be thrown into (I came from a strictly live-action background with no experience in CG), but was also an incredibly rewarding learning experience.

Here are a few projects from that internship:

Group project from Pixar Technical Undergraduate Program. Modeled crates, chalk, and lantern in Maya. Shaded crates, chalk, lantern, and telescope with procedural shaders in Slim. Responsible for set dressing and layout in Menv2x.

Final layout project from Pixar Technical Undergraduate Program. 127 Hours had just come out and I wanted to do something tangentially related.  I was responsible for developing, storyboarding, staging, layout, and editing. Staging and layout was done in Menv2x, and I edited in Final Cut Pro. With more time, it would have been great to explore more of the cinematography nuances of the 127 Hours, especially the handheld "selfie camera" used in the film.

Lighting project to match a reference image.

Great group of people :)
